Central Road Ministry formalises movement of foreign personal vehicles

NEW DELHI: Personal vehicles registered in foreign countreis must adhere to Indian regulations and carry specific documentation when entering India and operating on Indian territory.

The Motor Vehicles Non-Transport Vehicles Visiting India Rules, 2022 have been released by a notification from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. These regulations formalise the movement of non-transport (personal) automobiles when they enter or operate within Indian territory.

A valid registration certificate, driver's licence or international driving permission, insurance policy, and pollution under control certificate are among the documents that must be kept in the vehicle(s) functioning in accordance with these regulations during the period of the visitor's stay (if applicable in the origin country).

The original documents must be brought along with an authorised English version that has been duly authenticated by the issuing authority if the documents mentioned above are not in English.

It said that motor vehicles registered in any nation other than India are not allowed to transport local people or commodities on Indian soil. Moreover, the Indian Motor Vehicles Act of 1988 of must be complied with by motor vehicles registered in any nation other than India.
