NEW DELHI: The central government has approved an advance release of Rs 40 crore to aid those affected by the severe floods in Tripura. The decision was announced by Union Home Minister, stating that the funds are part of the central share from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and are intended to provide immediate relief to flood victims.

In his message, the Home Minister emphasized the government's commitment to supporting Tripura through these challenging times. He also mentioned that relief and rescue operations are already underway, with 11 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams, three Army columns, and four helicopters from the Air Force actively assisting the state government.

Tripura's Chief Minister, Manik Saha, expressed his deep gratitude to the central government for its timely assistance. He acknowledged the unwavering support provided by the central leadership during this difficult period, stating that it motivates the state to continue fighting the flood's devastating impact.

As part of ongoing efforts, the Indian Army has conducted extensive Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations, rescuing over 330 civilians from the hardest-hit areas. Under Operation 'Jal Rahat', two units from the Assam Rifles have been deployed to flood-affected regions such as Amarpur, Bhampur, Bishalgarh, and Ramnagar. Medical aid has also been extended to civilians in need.

Chief Minister Saha recently visited the flood-affected areas of Udaipur in the Gomati district, one of the regions severely damaged by the heavy rains. He used a helicopter to assess the situation and ensured that relief efforts were being implemented efficiently. During his visit, he also reviewed the management of relief camps and the distribution of aid to displaced citizens.

The floodwaters of the Gomati River continue to pose a threat, with water levels exceeding the extreme danger mark. In response, the state administration has relocated families living along the riverbanks in areas such as Amarpur, Udaipur, and Sonamura. Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant until the water recedes to safer levels.

To ensure that essential supplies reach those in isolated regions, MI-17 helicopters have been air-dropping food and other necessities to severely affected communities, particularly in Amarpur and Karbook in the Gomati district.

The state government remains on high alert, closely monitoring the evolving situation and coordinating rescue and relief operations. On Thursday, the Chief Minister inspected a shelter house at B. R. Ambedkar School in Bordowali, reassuring residents that the government is committed to providing ongoing support. He also visited the State Emergency Operation Center (SEOC) and urged officials to intensify their efforts in aiding affected communities.
