New Delhi: The Central Government has banned the Popular Front of India (PFI) and all of its associates, affiliates, or fronts. This ban goes into effect right away and lasts for five years.
More than 150 people with ties to the Popular Front of India (PFI) were detained or arrested in raids in seven states on Tuesday. This came five days after a similar crackdown against the group all over India. The raids took place in Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Gujarat, Delhi, Maharashtra, Assam, and Madhya Pradesh. Most of the raids were done by state police teams.

As police teams spread out across their states on Tuesday, it seemed like everything happened at the same time. Officials said that 25 people were arrested in Assam, 10 people were arrested in Maharashtra, and 57 people were arrested in Uttar Pradesh. There were 30 people being held in Delhi, 21 in Madhya Pradesh, and 10 in Gujarat. Karnataka also had a number of people arrested.
The PFI, which was founded in 2006 and says it wants to start a neo-social movement to help marginalised parts of India become more powerful, didn't say anything right away about the raids. Law enforcement agencies, on the other hand, often say that it is trying to spread radical Islam.
