The Foreign Trade Policy 2015-20 has been extended by the government for another six months, until September 30, 2022. According to a notification published by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade, "the existing Foreign Trade Policy 2015-2020, which is effective through 31 March 2022, is extended until 30 September 2022." (DGFT).

The Foreign Trade Policy 2015-2020, which took effect on April 1, 2015, was designed to last five years. It has been extended several times due to the COVID-19 epidemic. Following the Covid-19 outbreak, the policy was first extended for a year, until the end of March 2020, and subsequently for another year, until September 30.

The development comes amid global trade disruptions caused by Russia-Ukraine tensions that have lasted for more than a month. The FTP is a detailed policy guideline and strategy for promoting goods and service exports. The previous policy took effect on April 1, 2015, and was in effect for five years.

The strategy lays out recommendations for boosting exports to boost economic growth and create jobs, as well as incentives under various programs like Duty Free Import Authorisation (DFIA) and Export Promotion Capital Goods (EPCG)
