Centre Holds All-Party Meeting Ahead of Budget Session

NEW DELHI: The central government has called an all-party meeting on Thursday, January 30,  to ensure smooth proceedings before the upcoming Budget Session of Parliament.

The session will begin on January 31, with President Droupadi Murmu addressing both Houses of Parliament. Following this, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Economic Survey on February 1st, and the Union Budget will be tabled the next day, February 2nd

According to Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju, the Budget Session will be conducted in two phases. The first phase will run from January 31 to February 13, while the second phase is scheduled from March 10 to April 4.

Discussions on the President’s Address will take place on February 3, 4, and 6, with a reply expected on the final day. The government has urged all parties to cooperate in ensuring a productive session.

Speaking to the media, Kiren Rijiju recalled disruptions in previous sessions and appealed to opposition leaders to allow smooth discussions in Parliament. He expressed confidence that this year’s Union Budget would be well-balanced and comprehensive.

On the same day, the Finance Minister will present the Economic Survey. The General Budget will be announced the next day, February 1.

On February 3, the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha will discuss the Motion of Thanks to the President’s Address.

Timeline of the Upcoming Budget Session of Parliament

The Budget Session of Parliament will begin with President Droupadi Murmu addressing both Houses on January 31. This speech will officially mark the start of the session.

On February 1, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Union Budget 2025-26, outlining the government's financial plans for the upcoming year.

From February 3, both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha will begin discussions on the Motion of Thanks for the President’s address. These discussions will continue on February 4 and 6, with a reply expected on February 6.

After a short break, the second phase will take place from March 10 to April 4. During this period, Parliament will focus on debating and passing key bills and budget-related allocations.
