New Delhi: In mild/asymptomatic Covid cases, government  has issued revised guidelines for home isolation. The isolation period has been decreased to three days under the new rules. It would come to an end once at least seven days had elapsed since the positive test and three days had passed with no fever. Previously, discharge was set at 10 days after the onset of symptoms. "After the home isolation time is over, there is no need for re-testing," the guidelines stated.

Asymptomatic cases are those who have had their oxygen saturation measured at greater than 93 percent in room air but are not feeling any symptoms. The treating medical officer should classify the patient as a mild/ asymptomatic case. A designated control room contact number at the district/sub-district level must be offered to the family in order for them to get appropriate assistance for testing, clinical management-related guidance, and, if necessary, the assignment of a hospital bed.

Such individuals should have the necessary facilities at home for self-isolation and quarantining family contacts. A caretaker should be accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week (preferably someone who has completed his COVID-19 immunisation programme). For the length of home isolation, a communication link between the caregiver and a medical officer is required.
