New Delhi: The Foreign Contribution Regulation Act registration of the Missionaries of Charity (MoC), a Catholic religious organisation founded by Nobel Laureate Mother Teresa, has been restored by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

Any NGO or group that wants to receive and use foreign donations or funds must register under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA).The news comes just days after the home ministry announced that Missionaries of Charity’s FCRA registration had been revoked due to "certain unfavourable inputs discovered."

Following the ministry's refusal to renew its licence, MoC became one of almost 6,000 entities whose FCRA registration had lapsed.

The Mother Teresa-founded charity, however, is again back on the list of more than 16,000 NGOs with an active FCRA registration, according to the government's latest action.

Over 240 houses for the poor, orphans, and AIDS patients are run by the Missionaries of Charity across India. Last year, it celebrated 71 years of service in the country.
