New Delhi: Twitter on Tuesday admitted in the Delhi High Court that it has not followed the new IT rules. On this, the High Court made it clear that we cannot give any protection to Twitter now. The Government is free to take any action against Twitter. Amit Acharya had filed a complaint in the Delhi High Court against Twitter for not appointing a complaint officer so far even after the IT rules came into force. Hearing the same petition, the court asked the Centre if Twitter was flouting the rules and the Centre replied yes. Thereafter, advocate Sajjan Puwaya, appearing for Twitter, also admitted that we have not followed the IT rules.

Hc reprimands Twitter:-
The High Court asked the Central government, "Are you saying that Twitter is not following the rules?" The Centre said, Yes. Twitter then agreed and said, "It is true that to date we have not followed the new IT rules properly. The High Court told Twitter that you have given the wrong news to the court.'' The court said, "After his resignation, you could have appointed at least some other person.'' Twitter said, "We are going to appoint a new officer.'' The court reprimanded him and said, "By when will this process be completed? If Twitter feels that it can take as much time as it wants, we won't let it happen. The court asked the Twitter lawyer to tell us how long it would take to appoint a complaint officer by asking us on Twitter about your client meaning.''

In the High Court, he told the Central government that "as per the notification on February 26, three months' grace was given to rectify the mistake. But even after a month and a half, when Twitter did not take any initiative to improve, we had to initiate action.'' On this, the High Court said, "Now we cannot give any protection to Twitter. The Central Government is completely free to take action against Twitter. Because if Twitter has to do its job in India, they should know how to behave. Twitter has sought a day's time to respond after the high court reprimanded and the central government's stand.''
