World boxing champion and Olympic athlete Nikhat Zareen has officially joined the Telangana Police as the Deputy Superintendent of Police (Special Police) as of Wednesday, September 18.

Zareen submitted her joining report to the Director General of Police (DGP) of Telangana, marking the start of her new role.

Telangana DGP, IPS Jitender, expressed his enthusiasm about her appointment on X, saying, “We proudly welcome two-time world boxing champion and Olympic athlete, @nikhat_zareen, as she begins her role as Deputy Superintendent of Police (Special Police). Hailing from Nizamabad, she presented her joining report today. Her remarkable achievements inspire Telangana, and we look forward to her continued service to the state.”

Recently, Zareen's performance at the Paris Olympics ended in disappointment. She was defeated by Wu Yu from the People's Republic of China in the women’s 50 kg pre-quarter-finals. Despite being an unseeded contender, Zareen was overwhelmed by her opponent. She acknowledged the loss as one of the hardest in her career and expressed her dream of winning an Olympic medal for India.

In a heartfelt message posted on Instagram, Zareen reflected on her experience in Paris, stating, “I’m deeply grateful for the chance to pursue my dream, but destiny had other plans. Not achieving it here in Paris is devastating. I wish I could turn back time and put in even more effort for a different outcome, but that remains a wish.”

She promised her supporters that this setback is not the end. “I will return home to recover and clear my mind. This dream is still alive, and I will continue to chase it with renewed passion. This is not goodbye but a promise to return, to fight harder, and to make you all proud. Thank you for standing by me. The journey continues,” she added.
