Chandrayaan-3 : ISRO Announces Soft Landing Date, Lunar Mission's Progress, Live Viewing Links

New Delhi: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) revealed that the lander module of the Chandrayaan-3 mission is scheduled to land on the moon's surface on August 23 at 18:04 hours (IST). Today, India's lunar mission successfully executed the final maneuver to reduce the orbit of its Lander Module (LM), bringing it closer to the moon. Comprising the lander 'Vikram' and rover 'Pragyan', the LM is slated for a soft landing on the moon's south pole on Wednesday.

In a statement on X (formerly known as Twitter), ISRO shared, "Chandrayaan-3 is set to land on the moon on August 23, 2023, around 18:04 Hrs. IST. Thanks for the wishes and positivity!"ISRO also provided links for live viewing of the Chandrayaan-3 mission's lander module touchdown on the moon.The final 'deboosting' operation, aimed at slowing down the LM, was successfully completed on Sunday morning. The LM will now undergo internal checks and await sunrise at the designated landing site. The powered descent phase is expected to begin on August 23, 2023, around 17:45 Hrs IST, as stated by ISRO in a post on X.

The Chandrayaan-3 LM achieved separation from the Propulsion Module on Thursday, marking 35 days since the mission's launch on July 14. Following its entry into lunar orbit on August 5, orbit reduction maneuvers occurred on August 6, 9, 14, and 16. The modules separated on August 17 to pave the way for the upcoming soft landing.
