New Delhi:- Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc has finished a busy FP2 session in preparation for Sunday's Hungarian Grand Prix, where neither Red Bull nor Mercedes lit up their F1 timing screens.
Monaco topped the timeboard, beating Silverstone podium finisher Lando Norris in a session affected by the previous rain event and Saturday's qualifying session's alternate tire distribution test. In FP1, two red flags made the race difficult, and rain started to fall in the Mogyorod area, leaving FP2 riders with little access to the 'blue' course.
The Hungarian weekend saw the number of dry tires reduced from 13 to 11 as each qualifying stage tested the specified tire compound, so the teams had to save on that allocation despite the lack of dry running in FP1. Anyway, here are the key takeaways from Friday's practice leading up to the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Two red flags disrupted many teams' running schedules during the opening practice session at the wet Hungaroring, providing little actionable data, with the exception of a symbolic run on wet tire compound. Early in the session, Red Bull, under pressure from Sergio Perez, switched ends at Turn 5, sending Perez into the wall and causing the first of two running breaks.
At the intermission, when the battered RB19 was forced out of the barriers, it started to rain so hard that it was impossible to run dry for the rest of the session. Riders cautiously approached the gradually damping track with intermediate rubber and, in Kevin Magnussen's case, wet compound, to test the limits of available grip.

Carlos Sainz lost control of his Ferrari late in the session on the exit of Turn 3 and collided with the guardrail on the inside of the track heading into Turn 4, presenting his second red flag. The Spaniard nibbled part of the front wing, but the Marshalls didn't blush after he sat the SF-23 on the grass.
George Russell's late efforts on intermediate tires were enough to push the Englishman to the top of the timeboard ahead of Oscar Piastri and Lance Stroll, but the rain threatened to continue into FP2.
Ultimately, this did not happen and the track was already dry at the start of the second practice session. The Williams driver took the lead for the first 20 minutes, with Logan Sargent's first attempt on the Soft tyre's stepping stone to the top of the timekeeping board. The American clearly went against policy, as he and Albon focused on the softest compound available, while the rest of the field began explaining the medium compound.

Albon, on a medium tyre, finished Sargent's run at the top of the timekeeping board, but the Anglo-Thai rider was quickly overtaken by a series of soft tire laps that propelled Yuki Tsunoda to the lead. Norris reversed this with a time of 1:17.701, and the McLaren driver replaced Leclerc with a time of 1:17.686.
