New Delhi:- Former Alpha Tauri driver Nick de Vries has spoken out for the first time since being fired from Red Bull. De Vries has retired from the driver program altogether from this weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix, replacing Daniel Ricciardo with Red Bull's junior team.

De Vries, who did well in Italy last year as a stand-in for Williams driver Alex Albon, managed just 10 races in his rookie season. The 28-year-old has embarked on an unconventional path to F1 after winning the F2 Junior Series in 2019 and the 2020/21 Formula E title in the process.

The Dutchman's options for a return to F1 appear limited, but he was previously in the company's driver team and has a good relationship with Mercedes boss Toto Wolff.

In a statement posted on Instagram, De Vries hinted that his F1 dream was not over yet.

"I would like to thank Red Bull and Scuderia AlphaTauri for giving me the opportunity to realize my dream," he said. "Of course, it's a pity that the F1 opportunity I've dreamed of for so long has ended prematurely. But life is not a destination, it's a journey and sometimes you have to take a difficult road to get there."

“I am grateful for the privileged life I have had and am proud of my journey and my family.” This is just an experience. We move on and look forward to the next chapter. Thank you to everyone who has sent kind and encouraging messages this week. It was heart-warming to feel everyone's support.”

De Vries has been added to Red Bull's driver program following a ninth-place finish at Monza last year.

Helmut Marko, who signed him, was immediately furious with De Vries and spoke publicly about him on numerous occasions.
