Another jawan committed suicide in Bastar, fired through service rifle on his head

Raipur: A Jawan from Madhya Pradesh, posted in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district, committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle. Bijapur Superintendent of Police (SP) Aunjaneya Vaishnav has informed that Sunil Kumar, a jawan of the 15th Battalion Chhattisgarh Arms Force posted in village Dharona, 7 km from the district headquarters, committed suicide late last night. The deceased was a resident of the Bhind district of Madhya Pradesh. The reason for the suicide is yet to be ascertained. Bijapur police are investigating the case.

Let us know that in the last eight days, cases of suicide of two paramilitary personnel have been reported in the Bastar division. High officials of the police are worried about such incidents happening continuously. Bastar Range Inspector General of Police P Sundarraj has informed that the government is providing leave and better facilities to the security force personnel. This has reduced the incidence of suicides. Nevertheless, many times cases of suicide of soldiers are coming to light due to complications in family life.  

Let us know that in the last two years in the Bastar division, more than twenty soldiers have committed suicide due to various reasons. In this regard, psychiatrist Dr Rohit Tiwari has told that the soldiers posted in the paramilitary forces leave their families and live in the battalion. Many times in Naxal areas, jawans become depressed and lonely due to Naxal threats and lack of facilities like entertainment, and mobile connectivity. Due to this, they take suicidal steps.
