CHENNAI: Lieutenant General KS Brar, and A Arun the General Officers Commanding Dakshin Bharat Area, paid tribute to the courageous soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the 1971 war with Pakistan, marking Vijay Diwas. The solemn ceremony took place at the War Memorial in Chennai, where fallen heroes were honored for their valor and sacrifices.
In Visakhapatnam, the Eastern Naval Command conducted a wreath-laying ceremony at the War Memorial to commemorate Vijay Diwas. Vice Admiral G Srinivasan, AVSM, VSM Director General Naval Projects, laid a floral wreath at the 'Victory at Sea' War Memorial, honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice during various operations in the 1971 war.
Meanwhile, in New Delhi, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, accompanied by CDS Gen Anil Chauhan, Army Chief Gen Manoj Pande, IAF Vice Chief Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh, and Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar, paid their respects to the fallen soldiers at the National War Memorial.
MoS Defence Ajay Bhatt also honored the fallen soldiers at the National War Memorial on the occasion of Vijay Diwas, while in Jammu, Major Gen Gaurav Gautam, GOC TIGER Division, paid his respects at the Balidan Stambh, acknowledging the sacrifice of the brave soldiers.
Paying tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice, Major Gen Gaurav Gautam remarked, "I salute the sacrifice of our soldiers," highlighting their unwavering commitment and dedication to duty.
Simultaneously, Lt Gen RP Kalita, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of Eastern Command, laid a wreath at Vijay Smarak at Eastern Command Army HQ, Kolkata, in remembrance of the fallen soldiers on Vijay Diwas.
Vijay Diwas is observed every year on December 16 to commemorate India's historic victory against Pakistan in the 1971 war. This significant day marks the unconditional surrender of regular Pakistani troops to the Indian Armed Forces' tri-service theatre commanders in Dhaka, leading to the liberation of Bangladesh.
