Chennai: The father of a mentally challenged son, committed suicide in his house after allegedly poisoning his son. The son, however, was rescued by the neighbors who took him to the nearby hospital. According to the reports, the deceased was known as Perumal, the father of the son was a cab driver who due to financial crises found it difficult to take care of his son, Sreedhar Vinod, a 16-year-old mentally challenged child. The mother of the child, Latha had gone to fetch groceries and when she returned home, she found Sreedhar was lying on the floor fizzing at the mouth. Meanwhile, Latha screamed for help and then found her husband who was hanging from the ceiling in another room.

Neighbors came to the rescue of the boy and took him to the government hospital in Chengalpet. Soon after which he was referred to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital for treatment. Latha informed the Guduvancherry police station about the incident and told them that often Perumal would complain about Sreedhar. Perumal body was sent to a hospital in Chengalpet for the post mortem, while the child is kept under observation. A case of attempt to murder has been lodged against Perumal at Guduvancherry police station. However, the case was closed as he is no more alive.
