Chennai: In a shocking incident, a man allegedly assaulted a woman and poisoned her. The victim was admitted to the government hospital. The victim had allegedly proposed marriage to the accused but since she was of an inferior caste, the accused did not want to marry her. The accused was identified as Loganathan resident of Kamaneri, Salem. The family of the accused allegedly supported him in relation to the case.

From the past 1 year, the accused and the victim had been in a relationship. In January, the victim allegedly got pregnant but Loganathan did not agree on marrying her. He asked the victim to abort the baby as his sister was also expecting and he did not have the financial strength to support two deliveries.
After being continuously asked to get married, he allegedly took the victim near Omalur and left her at the bus station. The victim, however, found her way to the accused's house. The victim was allegedly abused and condescended there. The family of the accused stated that the accused could not marry the victim because she was of another caste.
This is not the first time that people who belong to an inferior caste or section of the society were targeted by the people. In a smililar incident from Madurai, a Dalit man was force-fed human feces and was urinated upon because of a three-year-old incident. Three years ago, the victim had raised his voice against the accused after which, they decided to take revenge.
