Chennai: Protests are continuing across the country against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Citizenship Register (NRC). Meanwhile, violent clashes broke out between police and protesters in the ongoing demonstration at Washermanpet in Chennai. After which the police allegedly lathi-charged the protesters. The police say that the protesters threw stones at the police, in which 4 policemen including a woman joint commissioner were injured.

After this incident, the police also retaliated in view of the large number of people protesting near Mint Metro station in Chennai. The police also detained the protesters, but they were released shortly afterwards. On Friday, a large number of people were protesting against the CAA and NRC in Washermanpet area. The case erupted when the police tried to remove some protesters.

After this, the protesters started throwing stones at the police, after which the police lathi-charged in retaliation. The Chennai police says that stones were thrown at the police by the protesters, in which 4 policemen including a woman joint commissioner have been injured. At the same time, the protesters also say that some people have also been injured from their camp.
