Chennai Weather Update: Light Rainfall Hits the City, Many Trains Cancelled

Chennai witnessed light rainfall early Tuesday morning, bringing a brief respite from the heat. The city is expected to witness more thundery showers throughout the day, accompanied by gentle breezes.

According to forecasts, the maximum temperature in Chennai could reach 35 degrees Celsius, while the average temperature is likely to stay around 28 degrees. The Air Quality Index (AQI) stands at PM10 28, which falls under the 'Satisfactory' category, indicating relatively good air quality.

Yellow Alert Issued by IMD
On September 2, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for Chennai and the entire state of Tamil Nadu, warning of potential thunderstorms and lightning. This alert follows heavy rainfall that led to water-logging in various parts of the city, causing significant traffic disruptions.

Train Cancellations
In response to the weather conditions, several trains have been cancelled. The DRM Chennai announced on social media that Train No. 12655, Ahmedabad-Dr MGR Chennai Central Navjeevan Express, scheduled to depart at 11:25 pm today, has been cancelled. Additionally, Train No. 12842, Dr MGR Chennai Central-Shalimar Coromandel Express, scheduled for 3:20 pm, has also been cancelled. The Chennai Central-Chhapra Ganga Kaveri Express was similarly cancelled on September 2.
