Chennai World Cinema Festival 2024: All You Need to Know

The Chennai World Cinema Festival 2024 is set to showcase 146 short and feature films from 51 countries. Organized by the Chennai World Cinema Trust and backed by the Ministry of Tourism, the festival will open with a special ceremony on Friday morning.

The Chennai World Cinema Trust shared that these films were carefully selected from a total of 3,321 submissions from 112 countries. The inaugural ceremony is expected to be attended by Capaya Rodriguez Gonzalez, the Ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, with films from Venezuela featured in the 'Country Focus' section.

This exciting event, supported by both state and central governments, will welcome various prominent figures from the film industry and other sectors.

Venue
The festival will take place at the Tamil Nadu Government MGR Film and Television Institute.

Dates
This week-long festival will run from October 4 to October 10 in Chennai.

The press release mentioned that around 20 filmmakers from countries such as Iran, Venezuela, and Bangladesh are anticipated to participate, adding to the event's appeal. Entry to the festival is free for all attendees.

Timing
The festival will be open daily from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM.

Chennai International Airport, located 13 kilometers away, is the closest airport to the venue. The nearest railway station is Kodambakkam, just 4 kilometers from the institute.

Films to Be Screened
The festival will kick off with the Venezuelan film The Inner Glow as the inaugural feature. Additionally, Tamil filmmaker Gayathri Shankar’s short film Pizhai will also be showcased. Film enthusiasts can enjoy free screenings at several venues, including Prasad Preview Theatre, Saligramam, Periyar Thidal, and Vepery.

Moreover, these films will be made available for students at various educational institutions, including Loyola College, Ethiraj College, Apollo Arts and Science College, Tamil Nadu Government MGR Film and Television Institute, and Bharat Institute of Higher Education and Research.
