The torch relay of the Chess Olympiad, which is being held for the first time in the country, has arrived in Thiruvananthapuram. Kerala Transport Minister Antony Raju has also bagged the torch from district collector Navjot Khosa at the Jimmy George Indoor Stadium in the city on Friday. Sai Media has tweeted, "For the first time, the Chess Olympiad Relay has reached Thiruvananthapuram on Friday, July 22. Hon'ble Transport Minister Antony Raju, the Government of Kerala has also bagged the torch from District Collector Navjot Khosa and District Collector, Trivandrum at Jimmy George Indoor Stadium. Earlier, the torch relay reached Lakshadweep on Wednesday.

The torch relay has been introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the relay has already started from Leh. The torch relay is scheduled to travel to 75 cities for 40 days before it ends at Mahabalipuram in Tamil Nadu. More than 200 countries are scheduled to participate in the Chess Olympiad. The grandmaster of chess is going to receive the torch at various identified places. The 44th edition of the world's biggest chess event is scheduled to be held from July 28 to August 10 at Mahabalipuram near Chennai.
