NEW DELHI: Delhi Traffic Police has issued a traffic advisory ahead of the upcoming Chhath Puja festivities in the national capital, advising commuters to plan alternate routes and avoid areas around significant ponds during the celebrations.

Anticipating traffic disruptions from Sunday afternoon to Monday morning, the advisory highlighted the expected congregation of thousands of devotees at various ponds across the city. The prayers, scheduled around sunset, will witness devotees gathering to participate. While some may depart after the evening prayers, many are expected to stay overnight in tents set up near these ponds.

"To ensure smooth traffic movement, we urge commuters to steer clear of roads surrounding the allocated Chhath Puja celebration sites," stated the Delhi Traffic Police in a social media post.

The advisory specifically pointed out several locations where heavy footfall of devotees is expected, including ponds at Sonia Vihar, Krishna Market Jhilmil Colony, DDA Land near JPC Hospital, Tughlakabad Kaya Maya Ground, DDA Ground near Jain Mandir Suraj Kund Road, opposite D-Block Mangol Puri, and Chhat Puja Kalyan Samiti Sainik Enclave.

In preparation for the anticipated large gatherings, the police have implemented extensive traffic management measures. They assured the public that necessary diversions would be arranged based on requirements to facilitate smoother traffic flow.

While emphasizing that there would be no restrictions for access to railway stations and ISBT, officials advised commuters to plan their journeys in advance, considering possible delays due to altered routes. Encouraging the use of public transportation like the metro, the advisory aimed to reduce congestion on the roads during the festive period.

With Chhath Puja celebrations drawing near, Delhi Traffic Police urged everyone to cooperate with authorities and follow traffic guidelines to ensure a hassle-free and safe experience for all during the revered festival.
