New Delhi: In anticipation of the Chhath Puja festivities, the Delhi Excise Department has declared November 19 as a 'dry day' within the city. A circular released by the Delhi Commissioner of Excise outlined the prohibition on the sale of alcohol in the national capital on Sunday, aligning with the Chhath Puja celebrations scheduled from November 17 to November 20.

Moreover, the AAP-led Delhi government unveiled a comprehensive 10-point plan devised by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to ensure the seamless execution of Chhath Puja festivities. The plan encompasses a range of initiatives, including the construction of well-equipped ghats, installation of illuminations, provision of temporary toilets at ghats, and various others.

Preparations for Chhath Puja in Delhi are in full swing:

Development of top-notch ghats for the occasion

Arrangements for tent setups at the ghats

Installation of lighting to facilitate morning and nighttime rituals

Provision of toilet facilities at each ghat

Ensuring adequate water supply

Availability of ambulances for medical emergencies

Presence of doctors at all ghats

Delhi Minister Atishi emphasized the significance of the Chhath festival for the people of Delhi, particularly for the Purvanchalis residing in the city. She highlighted the government's efforts to splendidly organize the Chhath festival, establishing around 1000 ghats at various locations within Delhi to provide a local celebration venue for the residents.

Atishi further mentioned ongoing endeavors to purify the Yamuna river by eliminating the hazardous foam. She conveyed, "The Delhi Jal Board is actively utilizing boats to apply chemicals and enzymes, ensuring the removal of toxic foam within one or two days. However, I appeal to the Uttar Pradesh government to prevent the release of contaminated water. The water reaching the Kalindi Kunj side of the river originates from the Uttar Pradesh barrage."

The comprehensive preparations and initiatives undertaken by the Delhi government aim to facilitate a safe, enjoyable, and spiritually fulfilling Chhath Puja for residents while ensuring environmental cleanliness and safety measures along the Yamuna riverbanks.
