In the Naxal-affected Sukma district of the Indian state of Chhattisgarh, security forces have killed Naxalite prize money worth Rs5 lakh in an encounter. The Inspector-General of Police of Bastar Region, Sundararaj P, said on Saturday that security forces killed Puma Kama alias Nagesh, in an encounter in Puspal police station area of Sukma district. Sundararaj told that the presence of some Maoists of Odisha was reported in the forests of Chintalnar and Mundwal villages under Puspal police station area. After the information, security forces were dispatched from Puspal police station on Friday.

Regarding the matter, the police officer said that the Naxalites started firing on the security forces when the security forces were in the forest of Chintalnar, Mundwal. Later the security forces also retaliated. After firing from both sides, the Naxalites fled from there.

In his statement, Sundararaj said that when the security forces searched the site later, there was a Naxalite body, a .315 bore gun and a pistol out of which a tiffin bomb, two hand grenades, three detonators, wire, Naxal Stick, Naxalite literature and other items were recovered. The police officer said that there is also a possibility of other Naxalites being injured in the encounter. He said that the deceased Naxalite has been identified as Kama alias Nagesh, who was active in the post of Area Committee Member (ACM) in the Naxalite organization 'Andhra-Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee'.
