Raipur: In a significant development, the Kanker police have successfully apprehended four Maoists (Naxals) involved in the detonation of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) near the Tekarapara Pahadi area of Kanker on Thursday, December 14, 2023, resulting in the loss of a Border Security Force (BSF) official's life. The police informed that all four suspects were arrested on Saturday morning, December 15, from the forest area of Partapur village in Kanker. The arrested individuals were active members of the Jan Militia affiliated with the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist).
Divyang Patel, Superintendent of Police (SP) Kanker, provided details about the arrest, stating, "The accused were members of the Jan Militia group and had been working with the outlawed outfit for some time. During the course of interrogation, they have confessed about their involvement in the Partpur Sadaktola IED explosion. The accused have been identified as Jaggu Ram Aanchala, Arjun Potai, Dasrath Durga, and Mukund Narwas, all residents of Partapur village in Kanker."
The incident involved an IED explosion triggered by extremists during an area dominating exercise near Partapur on December 14, resulting in serious injuries to a BSF Jawan from the 47th battalion, identified as Akhilesh Rai, a resident of Gajipur district of Uttar Pradesh. Despite immediate medical attention, the Jawan succumbed to his injuries on the same day.
This development occurred a day after another Chhattisgarh Armed Force soldier, Kamlesh Sahu, suffered grave injuries in a similar IED blast detonated by extremists near Aamdai mines region under Chotedongarpur police station limits in insurgency-hit Narayanpur.
It is noteworthy that road opening parties of the security forces are regularly deployed to curb the activities of extremists in regions inhabited by locals. These groups of personnel often face confrontations with Maoists, who may ambush them by surprise or trigger IED explosions to harm them.
