The 27th All India Forest Sports Festival has begun tooday in Chhattisgarh and will continue until October 22. This year’s event includes 23 sports disciplines and approximately 300 competitions, attracting around 3,000 participants.
Olympic bronze medalist Manu Bhaker, Indian T20 cricket captain Suryakumar Yadav, and other notable figures are set to attend both the opening and closing ceremonies.
The festival, initiated in 1992 by the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, aims to promote sports and strengthen coordination among forest department employees across all levels.
The event seeks to identify and nurture sports talent within the forest department, encouraging teamwork, focus, and perseverance among participants.
Dignitaries such as Union Forest Minister Bhupendra Yadav, Bihar’s Cooperative and Forest Minister Dr. Prem Kumar, Union Forest Department Secretary Leena Nandan, and Director General of Forests Jitendra Kumar are expected to attend the opening ceremony.
The competitions will follow official sports regulations, with experts ensuring fairness and transparency. Athletes will compete for medals in various categories, and winning states will receive trophies for their accomplishments.
Manu Bhaker will make a special appearance at the closing ceremony on October 20 to celebrate her achievements in shooting. Throughout the festival, participants will compete in both indoor and outdoor sports, including cricket, hockey, football, volleyball, badminton, chess, and bridge.
