Raipur: On Independence Day on August 15, Chhattisgarh's daughter Ankita Gupta made the country proud. On the occasion of Amrit Mahotsav of Independence, Ankita hoisted the tricolour given by CM Bhupesh Baghel on Mount Elbrus, the highest peak of the European continent. CM Bhupesh Baghel presented the national flag to young mountaineer Ankita at his residence on August 3 last before going to Europe. CM Baghel and Minister Mohammad Akbar have saluted and congratulated Ankita Gupta on this success.

Ankita Gupta is originally from Kawardha and is currently posted as a constable in the police department in the Kabirdham district. The Chhattisgarh state government has given financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to Ankita to participate in mountaineering in Europe. Mount Elbrus (West), the highest peak on the European continent, has an altitude of 5,642 meters i.e. 18,510 feet, its temperature ranges from minus 25 to minus 30 degrees Celsius while the wind speed ranges from 45 to 50 kilometres.

Even in these odd circumstances, Ankita made the 75th anniversary of independence more memorable by waving the tricolour at 5.43 am on August 15. Reaching the peak, Ankita displayed the Chhattisgarh model of justice and empowerment of the state government. After that, on the second day, on August 16, she hoisted the national flag at 4.23 am on mount Elbrus (East) mountain, 5,621 meters high in the continent of Europe. Ankita Gupta said that this success is dedicated to my country's freedom fighters and martyrs. She thanked CM Bhupesh Baghel for the financial help. She said that all this has been possible due to the love and blessings of the people of the state. She said that in January last year, the 6,080-meter high peak of UT Kangri in Leh Ladakh was scaled at minus 39 degrees Celsius. Her goal now is to increase the honour of the country by hoisting the tricolour on the top of the seven continents.
