New Delhi: Corona cases are increasing rapidly in various jails in the country. A petition was filed in the Supreme Court in this regard. Hearing this, The Chief Justice of the country (CJI) NV Ramana said, "I will talk to all the Chief Justices of the High Court tomorrow and ask them to form a High Power Committee".
In fact, just last year, the Supreme court directed all high courts to set up a high power committee to look into corona's case in jail and release prisoners on parole or bail accordingly. This time again the cases of corona are growing rapidly. Especially in jails where more prisoners are lodged than the capacity, there is a risk of corona explosion. A petition was filed in the Supreme court in this regard. The Supreme court was asked to pronounce a similar verdict for the entire country. On this, CJI NV Ramana said that we cannot place uniform orders for the entire country, we do not know the situation in each state, so we asked for the formation of HPC, which will look into the prison conditions of our states.
During the hearing today, senior advocate Colin Gonsalves said that last year 40,000 people were released, then they were back to jail on court orders, last year the jail congestion was about 150 per cent, which has now increased to about 200 per cent, as more people have been arrested.
