New Delhi: The Narendra Modi government at the Center has taken a historic decision regarding textbooks for children. Now children will be taught the lesson of the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita. As per reports, the shlokas and references from the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita will be included in the NCERT textbooks. The country's Minister of State for Education Annapurna Devi has given information in this regard while writing a letter in the Lok Sabha. Actually, the central government wants the students to learn about Indian culture. Keeping this in view, this decision has been taken.

Annapurna Devi has informed in this regard that the knowledge of Vedas and reference to Shrimad Bhagavad Gita will be included in NCERT books of classes VI and VII. At the same time, verses from these scriptures in Sanskrit will be added to the textbooks of classes 11 and 12. Annapurna Devi has said that the decision to include Shrimad Bhagavad Gita in the curriculum has been taken on the basis of inputs received from various ministries, states, departments, and union territories. NCERT has also started work on this. She said that with the decision taken by the Ministry of Education, children will be able to know about Indian culture.

Annapurna Devi has informed in the Lok Sabha that Para 4.27 of the National Education Policy (NEP) deals with the traditional knowledge of India, in which there is an effort for the welfare of all. Along with this, the Minister of State for Education said, 'If we have to become a power of knowledge in this century, we have to understand our heritage and teach the world about the 'Indian way of working'.'

Congress opposes the teaching of Gita in school:-

At the same time, Congress and other opposition parties have criticized the central government's decision to include Shrimad Bhagavad Gita in the textbooks. They say that the BJP is trying to saffronize the education system. The Congress leaders also said that if the BJP is including Shrimad Bhagavad Gita in the syllabus, it should also consider books from other religions.

Let us tell you that, in order to make children aware of Indian culture and heritage, the parliamentary panel had also recommended the inclusion of stories of 'unsung freedom fighters' of the Northeast who sacrificed their lives for the country in the NCERT. In order to enable students to know the rich history of India, school textbooks should contain information about freedom fighters and their role in the country's freedom struggle, the parliamentary panel said.
