Beijing: The mutual tension between China and Taiwan has reached beyond the borders of both countries. Chinese diplomats and Taiwanese government activists have been increasing over the recent Taiwanese National Day celebrations in Fiji. The clash was so severe that a Taiwanese employee suffered a head injury and had to be admitted to a hospital, a Chinese diplomat also got injured. Both countries have confirmed this confrontation on October 8. Both are being blamed for the violence.
Taiwan State Department spokeswoman Joan Ow said the confrontation occurred when Chinese diplomats were photographed taking photos of guests attending Taiwan's National Day. In this case, Taiwan has been strongly criticized for violating the norms of civil conduct of the Chinese Embassy in Fiji. The spokesman said that there was formal opposition from the Fiji government in this matter. The Chinese Embassy in Fiji has described Taiwan's allegations as "untrue". It is said that it was attacked while the Chinese Embassy personnel were doing their work outside Fiji's Taipei Trade Office. These employees were standing in a public place outside the venue when they were beaten up. A Chinese diplomat has also been injured in this.
On Monday, Zhao Lijian, spokesman for the Foreign Office of China, criticized the cakes and flags placed at the ceremony. It said that this is a violation of China's One China policy. Taiwan has no right to do so. In this regard, opposition from the Fiji government has been expressed. It tried to show the ceremony to China.
