BEIJING: China has been badly outraged by US President Donald Trump's plan to induct India into the G7 amid military tensions at the Ladakh border. China's official newspaper Global Times quoted a Chinese expert as saying that India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given a positive response when Trump's G7 is expanded to G11 or G12. The Chinese newspaper said in a threatening manner that India is playing with fire by trying to get involved in the expansion of the G7.
The Global Times has further stated that the idea of expansion of the G7 is based on the geopolitical calculus and is aimed at the siege of China. America wants to involve India in this because New Delhi has become not only the fifth big economy of the world, but India has become an important pillar of the Indo-Pacific strategy of America. The US has been trying to increase India's role for a long time to balance China in the Indo-Pacific region.
The Chinese newspaper said that India's positive response to Trump's plan is not surprising. India, which has the ambition to become a big power, has long sought participation in large international forums. India wants to send a message to China by endorsing the idea of G7 expansion of the United States, given the latest tension between India and China on the border.
