China declares a significant oil and gas exploration

Beijing: The Bohai Sea, which runs along China's northern coastline, has been home to a significant oilfield with 100 million tonnes of light crude reserves, according to the state-owned oil and gas corporation CNOOC in China.

The Bozhong 26-6 oilfield is located in the southern part of the Bohai Sea, with an average water depth of 22 metres, according to a statement released by the company on Wednesday.

At a depth of 4,480 metres, where the discovery well was drilled and completed, 321.3 metres of oil pay zones were found.

According to the report, the well was tested to produce an average of 2,040 barrels of crude oil and 11.45 million cubic feet of natural gas daily.

After Kenli 6-1 and Kenli 10-2, the Bozhong 26-6 oilfield was discovered with [a] hundred million tonnes of reserves in the southern Bohai Sea, according to CNOOC's deputy chief exploration engineer, Xu Changgui.

In addition, CNOOC "will keep looking for mid-to-large sized oil and gas fields and continue the momentum in offshore oil and gas development," said the company's chief executive Zhou Xinhuai.

By 2025, experts in the field predict that oil and natural gas discoveries in the Bohai Sea will increase CNOOC's annual production to more than 80 million tonnes of oil equivalent.

After CNPC and Sinopec, CNOOC is the largest national oil company in China. CNOOC is a Beijing-based company that was established in 1982 and specialises in the production, processing, and marketing of oil and natural gas from China's offshore zones.
