In a recent development, China has expressed its readiness to collaborate with India to improve bilateral relations, emphasizing that border disputes between the two countries "should be handled properly." This statement from the Chinese embassy's spokesperson in India comes shortly after Narendra Modi's return to the Prime Minister's chair for a third consecutive term, albeit with a reduced majority.

The spokesperson highlighted the importance of a stable relationship between China and India, noting that it is "in the interest of both countries and conducive to peace and development in this region and beyond." The statement was posted on X, a platform used by the Chinese embassy in India.

"China and India are important neighboring countries. Relevant border issues should be handled properly. A sound and stable #ChinaIndia relationship is in the interest of both countries, and conducive to the peace and development in this region and beyond. China is willing to work with India to push forward bilateral relations in the right direction," the spokesperson wrote.

This announcement follows India's External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar's recent commitment to resolving remaining issues along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China. Jaishankar emphasized India's focus on finding a solution for the border issues, particularly in light of the prolonged border dispute in eastern Ladakh.

Relations between China and India have been strained since deadly clashes along the border in 2020, which resulted in casualties on both sides. Despite multiple rounds of diplomatic and military talks aimed at easing tensions, the relationship remains tense.

Chinese Premier Li Qiang recently congratulated PM Modi on his re-election, although President Xi Jinping has not yet extended his congratulations, underscoring the ongoing strain between the two nations.

In a media briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning highlighted the importance of a healthy and stable relationship between China and India, emphasizing that it is in the fundamental interests of both countries and their peoples.

"A healthy and stable China-India relationship is in the interest of both the countries, and conducive to the peace and development in this region and beyond," Mao said.

China has reiterated its willingness to work with India to advance bilateral relations on a healthy and stable track, focusing on the overall interests of both countries and looking towards the future.
