Estonia: Chinese Defense Minister Li Shangfu's recent visit to Belarus has underlined China's intention to bolster military collaboration with its neighboring ally, Russia. 

The visit comes as Russia deploys tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus, generating geopolitical ripples. Shangfu met Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko in Minsk, where both sides expressed a commitment to enhance bilateral military cooperation based on significant agreements reached at the highest levels of leadership.

Although the exact contours of their military cooperation remain undisclosed, China and Belarus have jointly agreed to conduct joint military exercises in the coming year.

This strategic partnership is manifesting at a time when both countries are navigating the complex dynamics of their relationships with Russia, particularly in the context of Russia's involvement in Ukraine.

Valery Karbalevich, a Belarusian analyst, highlighted that this visit signals China's expanding military interests and its determination to foster close connections with Minsk and Moscow, even amid Western dissatisfaction. 

This stance is likely intended to convey that China remains undeterred by external concerns and is resolute in pursuing stronger relationships with its regional partners.

China, which asserts its neutrality in the Ukraine conflict, has consistently accused the United States and its allies of exacerbating tensions with Russia.

President Lukashenko, while affirming the assistance from China's military, reiterated Belarus's commitment to using its nuclear weapons only in the face of aggression, highlighting a defensive posture.
