After the conflict with China on the border, there are continuous protests in India. A boycott campaign has been launched in every city to boycott Chinese salmon which is going to continue even further. The work of removing Chinese electricity meter has started in UP which includes 15 thousand meters of Gorakhpur.

The MD of Power Corporation had instructed not to use Chinese equipment. Local officials had planned to remove 15,000 electricity meters installed on 10% of the 1.50 lakh connections deprived of smart electricity meters in different areas of the city and install smart electricity meters. Due to this lockdown, it could not be implemented. Now, amid growing anger towards China over the border dispute, it has now been decided to remove the Chinese meter immediately. Engineers say that right now there is a ban on smart change. As soon as the corporation gets the green signal, in the first phase, only Chinese meters will be replaced. Till then, the name-address of consumers will also be marked according to the meter number through the online billing system. This will make it easier to change the meter. Officials say that consumers can also inform the Chinese meter installed in their premises to the area's SDO, JE, and XEN. In the year 2012, the corporation had banned mechanical and Chinese meters.

According to the Urban Meter Testing Section, Chinese meters are being used on about 15 thousand connections in other mohallas including Bansatpur, Turkmanpur, Purani Gorakhpur, Muftipur, Beniganj, Jaffra Bazar, Khokha Tola, Mirzapur Godiana Tola.
