In this, Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, a main Christian church in Kerala, has come out in support of the opposition UDF and Congress's Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) on Friday. A bishop delegation from the Malankara Church met the top leaders of the IUML. A meeting was held in Malappuram with the bishop's delegation and IUML state president Hydrali Shihab Thangal and other senior leaders of the party. Orthodox bishops Geevarghese Mar Yulios and Yakoob Mar Irenaios told the media, "Our meeting is a message against the political effort to create a rift between the Christian and Muslim communities." We have met the IUML leaders at the behest of Catholicos Baselios Marthoma Paulose II.
