Church near Mysuru vandalised, Infant Jesus' statue damaged

Karnataka: Some unidentified persons reportedly vandalised the statue of Infant Jesus at St. Mary’s church in Periyapatana, broke a few flower pots and other items in the church on December 27.

The incident came to light when one of the workers Rajanna entered the premises to switch on the light late in the evening.

Fr. John Paul filed a complaint at the Periyapatana police. The offenders are thought to have entered the property after Fr. John Paul left town in the evening. 

Police said, on Tuesday some unidentified persons vandalised the St. Mary's Church adjacent to Gonikoppa Road in Piriyapatna,  including the statue of Baby Jesus, were found damaged.

The incident took place two days after Christmas, for which all the necessary arrangements for the convenience of pilgrims were made.

Eight sound systems, a front table, and flower pots were all damaged Father John Paul said. He added that some other things had been lost or destroyed.

Earlier, the St. Francis of Assisi Church in Bangalore's Kengeri Satellite Town was similarly vandalised on January 20, 2020, by unknown miscreants.
