India is moving on the path of progress day by day, but at the same time, the condition of youth in the country is becoming a matter of concern. Once upon a time, the family used to teach every good thing to their children. But now the youth have made the cinema artists their guide. Seeing in the circle of competing with friends and acquaintances, they fall prey to bad habits. But they do not know that all this is taking their life towards darkness.
As people are taking smoking as a social curse, in the films smoking is being shown in a positive way. Tobacco companies spend millions on advertising. And if we talk about now, only films, TV, and other media can be held responsible for promoting the use of tobacco. There has also been a lot of research that links the link between television or movies and smoking in children, due to which a lot of action has been taken to face this issue. According to research, youngsters who see actors smoking in movies, also have a strong desire to smoke cigarettes. Children are sometimes influential with movies and television, and often imitate what they see. Tobacco use is shown in many films, even though this scene is of no use in the film. But they are used in films because of the influence and money of tobacco companies.
One study found that 15-year-olds were less likely to be exposed to cigarette smoking after watching smoking scenes in films than those who currently smoke. The study shows that 44 percent of the teenagers who start smoking start because of smoking scenes in movies. There is a clear correlation between the smoking scene in movies and youth smoking behavior, and in recent years the on-screen tobacco scene reduction may have contributed to a decreasing percentage of young smokers in the same period.
Researchers say that previous research from other countries has also shown that smoking attitude and adolescent behavior is influenced by smoking seen in movies. To counter this, public health groups are working together to urge moviemakers not to use tobacco from films. Under this, Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) chairman Pahlaj Nihalani introduced certain rules for filmmakers. Whatever follows.
Scenes that have the effect of justification or glorification of drinking liquor will not be shown. Scenes that encourage or depict glamorous drug addiction will not be shown. Glamorized scenes to encourage the use of tobacco or smoking or glamorizing will not be shown. However, even after these rules are introduced, films show smoking scenes. It has become common for filmmakers. Now it remains to be seen whether such rules prove to be useful in reducing smoking.
