Agartala: In the afternoon today, the citizens of Tripura and north-eastern states witnessed the earthquake which on the Richter scale is measured 5.7. Till now, there is no news of casualities reported.
The earthquake lasted for four to five seconds and most part of the northeast region got affected with it. Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur state regions are in the position six in the world's earthquake prone area.
In 1897, around 1,600 people died in the earthquake which measured 8.7 Richter scale.
