NEW DELHI: Following the announcement of Rajya Sabha chairman Venkaiah Naidu in which he rejected an impeachment motion to remove CJI Misra, senior  judges of the Supreme Court held 20-minute-long meeting chaired by CJI Dipak Misra this morning.

The 20-minute-long discussion though not a usual morning meeting of the CJI with SC judges because in a regular affair meeting lasts no longer than five minutes. What isn't regular is so for that, all the benches started functioning today - 15 minutes later than usual today.

Earlier today, Naidu rejected the Congress-led opposition parties' impeachment notice to remove the CJI saying it lacked considerable merit.

"Having considered the material contained in the notice of motion and reflected upon the inputs received in my interaction with legal luminaries and constitutional experts, I am of the firm opinion that the notice of the motion does not deserve to be admitted. Accordingly I refuse to admit notice of motion," said Naidu as quoted by TOI.

On Friday, a number of 64 Parliamentarians (MPs) belonging to seven political parties inked the notice for removal proceedings against the CJI which included MPs from the Congress, the NCP, CPM, the CPI, the SP, the BSP and the Muslim League.
