CJI DY Chandrachud Unwell, Won't Hear Today's Scheduled Matters: SC

NEW DELHI: On Friday, the Supreme Court issued an official notice, announcing that the Chief Justice of India (CJI), DY Chandrachud, would not be able to preside over the scheduled matters in court due to an illness.

According to the statement, Justice Manoj Misra will now take charge of the chamber matters, along with the Single Judge Bench matters, including Transfer Petitions, on the date of 28th July 2023, in Court No.10 at 11.30 A.M. The list for the same is being issued accordingly.

Simultaneously, the apex court is set to hear the plea of TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee and his wife Rujira in a money laundering case.

The Supreme Court of India had a packed day ahead on Friday, July 28, with a series of significant cases lined up for consideration. Among these, the court was slated to address a plea from Moninder Singh Pandher, one of the accused in the infamous Nithari killings case.

Furthermore, the court was on the verge of delivering its verdict on the bail pleas of Vernon Gonsalves and Arun Ferreira, both accused in the sensitive Bhima Koregaon case. Another crucial matter on the agenda was a plea presented by the National Platform for the Rights of the Disabled, advocating for welfare measures to support differently-abled individuals.
