Earlier, at the NITI Aayog meeting on Saturday, Punjab CM Amarinder Singh had made his demands through a letter. Punjab was represented by State Chief Secretary Karan Avtar Singh at the meeting. Raising the issue of agrarian crisis, he appealed to PM Modi to provide relief to distressed farmers through loan waiver at a time.

Amarinder also urged the central government to increase the annual amount under the Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana from six thousand to 12 thousand rupees. Amarinder Singh, on the one hand, is seeking help from PM Modi, on the other hand, accusing him of providing 15,000 to 20,000 cusecs of water daily to Pakistan. Punjabi Ekta Party (PEP) chief Sukhpal Singh Khaira has said that the decision to give such a huge amount of water to Pakistan was untimely and vague.
