CM Kejriwal's big announcement, AAP to contest Panchayat elections in UP

New Delhi: After Delhi, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is now gearing up to consolidate its land in Uttar Pradesh. For this, it has announced to contest the upcoming panchayat elections in UP. These elections are seen as semi-finals of the 2022 assembly elections. AAP's National President and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal had announced that his party will contest panchayat elections in UP.

Taking the election seriously, the party has made Kejriwal government cabinet minister Rajendra Pal Gautam an observer of the elections.  In addition to Minister Rajendra Pal Gautam, the party has appointed Deputy Speaker Rakhi Birla and MLA Surendra Kumar as state-cum-in charge. Gautam is the Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Sc/St Department, Registrar of Co-operative Societies in the present Delhi government. He is an MLA from Seempuri in Delhi assembly.

Rakhi Birla is currently the Deputy Speaker of the Delhi Assembly. Previously, he has been a minister in the Delhi government. In addition, Birla was also the Minister of Women and Child Development between December 2013 and February 2014. Rakhi Birla, who started his political innings by joining AAP in 2013, won the 2013 assembly election, beating four-time Congress MLA Raj Kumar. He is serving as the youngest Vice-President of the Delhi Assembly. He is currently an MLA from the Mongol Puri Assembly.
