AIADMK headed Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami inaugurated Mayiladuthurai district through video conferencing from the Secretariat this morning. In the March month, Chief Minister Palanisami had announced that Mayiladuthurai will be split from Nagapattinam, making it as the district headquarters. After 8 months from the announcement, today the Chief Minister inaugurated the new district of Mayiladuthurai through video conferencing from Secretariat.
It is worthy to recall that there had been a long-pending demand from the people of Mayiladuthurai to consider them as a separate district for nearly 25 years. To execute his announcement, CM also appointed Lalitha IAS as a special officer (Executive Magistrate) to demark the boundaries of the district and Srinadha IPS as Superintendent of Police for the newly formed Mayiladuthurai district.
During the announcement, the CM also had informed that few new districts will be formed in the state for administrative convenience and accelerating the public welfare schemes. According to which, Kallakurichu, Tirupattur, Chengalpattu, Tenkasi and Ranipet were announced as separate districts this year. Tirupattur and Ranipet were created by the trifurcation of Vellore. Chengelpet and Tenkasi were carved out of Kanchipuram and Tirunelveli districts respectively. With Mayiladuthurai new district inauguration, the total number of districts in the State becomes 38.
