Patna: Bihar CM Nitish Kumar said that those who do not believe in the spirit of Mahatma Gandhi, I do not consider them as Indians. Speaking in the assembly on Wednesday regarding the amendment in the prohibition law, Nitish said that those who do not follow the ideas of Mahatma Gandhi are unworthy, they are sinners. On Wednesday, the Bihar Assembly passed the Prohibition and Excise Amendment Bill, 2022 by voice vote, under which the prohibition law has been made less stringent for the first time in the state.
On the deaths due to poisonous liquor in the states, the Chief Minister said in a questioning tone that, will give relief if he drank poisonous liquor and died? He did not die when he went to drink alcohol. The CM said that spurious liquor is not only a matter of Bihar. In the states where there is no alcohol prohibition, more people are dying due to spurious liquor.
Congress Legislature Party leader Ajit Sharma alleged that the amended law would give more powers to the policemen. With this decision of the state government, the nexus between the police and the liquor mafia will be further strengthened. RJD MLA Rishi Kumar said that the new law which states that people drinking alcohol will not be jailed, is very ridiculous. This proves that the prohibition policy has failed in the state and should be abolished.
