Chennai: The body of Para Commando Jitendra Kumar Verma, who was martyred in the Tamil Nadu helicopter accident, was sent to his native village Dhamanda in Sehore district of Madhya Pradesh on Sunday. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also came to pay his last respects to the martyr. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister announced the government is going to bear the cost of the entire education of the children of Martyr Jitendra. In addition, compensation of Rs. 1 crore and a government job to a family member is to be given.

Chief Minister Shivraj has said that a government school is going to be named after Jitendra Kumar and a statue of him is also to be installed in the village. People from Bhopal to Sehore stood on the roadside and showered flowers in honour of the martyr.  CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan had come to Dhamanda village on Sunday afternoon to pay homage to the martyr. He has announced a Rs 1 crore honorary fund from the state government to the family of late hero Jitendra Verma here. He also announced to give a government job to a family member as well as to rename the school in the name of Amar Shaheed Jitendra Verma.

The villagers said, "We are proud of our son: The villagers have said that since we came to know about the accident, our eyes have been looking only in the same direction as the mortal remains of our brave son are coming to the village. Tears welled up in the afternoon when he saw his son wrapped in the tricolour but was also proud. Posters paying tribute to Jitendra were also put up in the streets. The arrangement of other types of flowers, including roses and marigolds, was completed to bid a final farewell to your red. From the roofs of houses to the streets of the village, the tricolour is waving.
