Coal mines allocation process started, state governments will get crores of revenue

Bhubaneswar: After investors did not show interest in the previous round of coal auctions, the central government is now considering allocation of six mines soon. The Ministry of Coal has started the auction process for 27 coal mines under parts eight, nine and 10 for the non-regulated sector. Along with this, the allocation process has been started for 15 coal mines underparts six, seven, eight and nine in the power, iron and steel sector.

An official statement said that in the auction process, except for Gare Palma IV-1, all the mines have been recommended by the central government to the bidders. Accordingly, the process of allocation of Bikram mine in Madhya Pradesh has started for Birla Corporation. The company quoted a price of Rs 154 per tonne of coal, which would provide revenue of Rs 166.32 crore to the state government for 30 years.

Odisha's Jamkhani block is being allocated to Vedanta, which will provide revenue of Rs 13,057 crore to the state government at the rate of Rs 1674 per tonne of coal. In the allocation process, applications were received in respect of six out of 15 coal mines. These six coal mines are under consideration for allocation based on the evaluation of applications received in the allocation processes.
