Mumbai: Union Minister for Coal and Mines Pralhad Joshi unveiled 20 closed and discontinued mines on Friday in an effort to encourage private sector investment and assist the country improve its coal supply.

"In the presence of Minister @raosahebdanve ji, 20 closed and discontinued mines were launched on revenue sharing for re-operationalization. These mines have an estimated reserve of 380 million tonnes of coal and will help us expand coal supply to TPPs while also providing jobs for people "Joshi tweeted.

Joshi stated after the mines were launched, "I can tell you that we are currently engaged in prudent coal mining. Regardless of whether PM Modi's renewable energy targets are met, the country will still require coal, making coal gasification essential." The Ministry of Power ordered all imported coal power plants to operate at full capacity on Thursday, citing an increase in power demand of about 20% in energy terms.

In light of the emergency, the Union Ministry urged all States and domestic coal-based generating businesses to import at least 10% of their coal requirements for blending. It was said in an official ministry order, "In terms of energy, demand for power has increased by over 20%. Although the availability of domestic coal has increased, it is insufficient to meet the rising demand for electricity. This has resulted in load shedding in several places. The inventories of coal at the power plant have been depleting at an alarming rate due to a mismatch between daily coal usage for power generation and daily coal receipt at the power plant."

"All imported coal-fired power plants must run at full capacity and generate electricity. The Resolution Professional must take actions to make the imported coal-based plant operable if it is subject to NCLT "read the order copy.
