New Delhi: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her party Trinamool Congress (TMC) have received a major setback from the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court has allowed the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to interrogate Mamata's nephew Abhishek Banerjee and wife Rujira Banerjee in the coal smuggling case. The Supreme Court has said that the ED can question TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee and his wife on 24-hour notice. However, the Supreme Court has also given a relief to Abhishek and his wife. ED will now interrogate him in Kolkata instead of calling him to Delhi. Abhishek had sought a concession from the court from going to Delhi to join the investigation of the case.

Let us inform that the inquiry of ED was being continuously opposed by the Mamata government of Bengal. In such a situation, this order of the top court is no less than a setback for the Bengal government amid the conflict with the central agencies. In its decision, the Supreme Court has also told the Bengal government that there should be no obstruction or misbehavior in front of the investigating officers. Let us tell you that Abhishek Banerjee had demanded from the top court that he should be exempted from questioning by coming to the headquarters of the investigating agency in Delhi.

Mamta's nephew Abhishek said that Bengal is his home state and there he wants to cooperate in the investigation of the case. On this, the top court ordered the Bengal government to cooperate in the investigation of ED. Along with this, the ED has been allowed that if someone obstructs the investigation or misbehaves with the officials in Bengal, then she can come to the court.
