Kochi: A DYFI worker has been arrested in Kerala on Monday for raping and then killing a girl. According to media reports, the incident took place in Idukki district. Kerala Police has arrested a local activist of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), a youth wing of the ruling Communist Party, for killing a 6-year-old girl after raping her.
Police said, the accused 22-year-old Arjun had raped girl for three years. The body of the minor was found hanging from a snare in his parents' house. A police officer said, "The incident took place on June 30, initially police registered a case of accidental death. 'We were told that a shawl was accidentally tied around the girl's neck while playing. The parents of the girl were not at home during that time. However, the postmortem report revealed that the girl had been raped for a long time, giving the police an important clue about the case'.
Police further said that the accused has admitted that he lured the girl with sweets, toffees for three years and raped her. The accused told police that on June 30, when the girl's parents were not at home, he saw the opportunity and reached there. She raped the girl after which she fainted. This frightened him and killed the girl to hide his crime and tied her body to a shawl and hung it from a rope in the room. Let us tell you that Arjun, a member of the DYFI, is also a so-called social worker. He has also worked as a volunteer during the epidemic.
