New Delhi: The Communist Party of India Marxist (CPM) has filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the order to remove and raze the illegally constructed settlements in Delhi's Shaheen Bagh, which is the epicentre of the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) agitation. The CPM, in its petition, has said that the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SMCD) authorities have prepared a plan to demolish slums. That plan is to be implemented in the next week.
The petition also stated that on May 4, a bulldozer's action was taken on the houses of the poor in Sangam Vihar. Now, by Monday, it has also been announced to run a bulldozer at Okhla Shaheen Bagh. The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SMCD) has issued a notice to the police administration to provide additional police force for sabotage in the coming week. Let us know that the illegal constructions constructed by the SMCD by encroaching on Shaheen Bagh will be demolished by bulldozers on May 9.
On April 20, Delhi BJP unit president Adesh Gupta had written to the SDMC and the mayor of North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) demanding the removal of illegal construction of Rohingyas, Bangladeshis and anti-social elements. South Delhi Mayor Mukesh Suryan had informed after a meeting that a plan was being prepared to remove encroachments on government land, roads and footpaths. He had said that notices will be sent to the people before removing encroachments and illegal constructions. However, the CPM's petition in the Supreme Court raises the question that, when it is taking anti-encroachment action at many places in Delhi, why is the Communist Party particularly interested only in Shaheen Bagh? Does the CPM want to garner the sympathy and votes of the Muslim community by doing so? Or is the CPM in favour of allowing illegal encroachments to remain? However, at the moment it is in the Mamla court.
